You may have noticed a recent addition to the roof at the Day Centre - we've now gone solar!
Our investment in solar panels was made to reduce the our energy costs to enable us to focus on providing care for the frail and elderly. In time we will explore options to introduce battery systems that will enable us to provide EV charging, including the consideration to offer the facility for our local community's use.
The installation of seventeen Trina 445Wp PV panels was completed by ‘Spartek’ in February 2026 with the move to a SEG Tariff to be set up with our energy supplier. Since the system was commissioned we have generated over 400kWh of electricity and meet most of our daily electricity usage.
The cost of installation, almost £14,000, was met by a £10,000 grant from South Cambs District Council’s Zero Carbon Communities fund and donations from UK trusts and foundations. We expect the PV panels will generate 33% of the Day Centre's electricity annually and provide a revenue of over £600 through export to the grid. In total this will reduce our electricity costs by 50%. The revenue created will also fund annual maintenance costs and safety checks required by South Cambs District Council.
